American billionaire Elon Musk declared on Tuesday that SpaceX and X will relocate their headquarters out of California, a decision coming just a day after Governor Gavin Newsom signed a controversial bill. This new law prevents school staff from disclosing changes in a child’s gender identity to their parents without the child’s consent.

“Enough is enough,” Musk posted on his social media platform, X, which was previously known as Twitter. “This law, along with numerous others before it, undermines both families and businesses. Consequently, SpaceX will move its headquarters from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.”

Shortly after this announcement, Musk revealed another major shift: the headquarters of X will also leave California, moving from San Francisco to Austin, Texas.

“I warned Governor Newsom about a year ago that such legislation would drive families and businesses out of California to safeguard their children,” Musk expressed in his statement.

This newly enacted legislation makes California the first state in the nation to prohibit school districts from mandating staff to inform parents about a student’s gender identity or sexual orientation without the student’s consent.
